Window Blinds Info and Tips

The room faces north and currently has regular aluminum blinds but light seeps through each crack and opening… even with the curtains it is very bright inside. I either need to get a liner and somehow attach it to the curtain panels or change the blinds. Do you think bamboo blinds would block the light with a curtain on top? I basically want to have a dark room regardless of time for sleep.

For me the cellular shades look was great compared to others. Let me know if cellular shades are outdated ? and may be the wood blinds are latest trend .
